Ahhh, Stockholm - you are just so pretty, with your fairytale architecture and narrow cobblestone streets. Seriously though, Stockholm is such a beautiful, photogenic city that is just begging to be Instagrammed, everywhere you look.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Gamla Stan waterfront

I took so many photos during my trip to Stockholm, and I just loved wandering the charming streets, and snapping away with my camera (in between eating lots of meatballs and cardamom buns, of course). There was just so much beauty around every corner.

Keep on reading because here I am sharing the best Stockholm Instagram spots with you all!

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Gamla Stan cobblestone street

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Gamla Stan street

Gamla Stan
Also known as Stockholm's old town, Gamla Stan is one of the best preserved medieval city centers in Europe, and also the home of the first Viking settlement where the city was founded in 1252. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Stockholm, and you will find plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops, and museums.

But what makes Gamla Stan one of the best Stockholm Instagram is the narrow cobblestone streets and the fairytale architecture - you will ooh and aah while walking through the charming streets, and of course you will be snapping away with your camera.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Stromkajen

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Stromkajen view of Royal Palace

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Stromkajen at sunset

Strömkajen
If you take a boat anywhere in Stockholm, you will likely come to Strömkajen, which is the main ferry terminal. Technically, Strömkajen refers to the ticket booth, which is a unique brass structure itself - but with the water and boats in the foreground, and with the Grand Hotel and the National Art Gallery in the background, it creates a beautiful scene perfect for photos. The best spot to capture is this is from Gamla Stan, on the east side of the Royal Palace. Conversely, you can snap the perfect photo of the Royal Palace from Strömkajen as well! (Pro tip: It is also a beautiful spot to take in the sunset.)

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of Gamla Stan from Skeppsholmen

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - crown on Skeppsholmen bridge

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Skeppsholem perfect view of Gamla Stan

Skeppsholmen Bridge
I literally came to this spot 3 times while I was in Stockholm, because the scene from the Skeppsholmen Bridge (and the area right next to it) was just perfect. You can get a postcard shot of Gamla Stan's fairytale like buildings, with the water and boats in front of it from here. There is also a gold crown sculpture on the bridge, which also allows you to play with perspective for your shot, making this one of the best photo spots in Stockholm.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of Gamla Stan from City Hall

Stockholm City Hall
The structure itself was built with 8 million bricks and is pretty impressive (the best view of this is from the island of Riddarholmen), the view from the top is is supposed to be amazing, and the inside halls are supposed to be beautiful as well. However, what you are coming here for is that view of the western side Gamla Stan - it is sooooo pretty. Even if you don't go inside the building, the view makes City Hall one of the best Stockholm Instagram spots, be sure to stop by here to get some photos!

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of city from Fjallgatan

Fjällgatan
Located in Södermalm, just above the hill from Fotografiska (the photography museum, which is worth a stop), this is the spot to take in some spectacular views of the entire city. (Pro tip: it is also on the way from Fotografiska to Meatballs for the People, which is one of the best meatball restaurants in the city - this is how I stumbled upon this spot, so win-win!) I happened to come here around sunset, and it was one of the most magical things I've ever seen. You are presented with a panoramic view of all of Stockholm, from Gamla Stan on one end, to Djurgården and beyond on the other. It is seriously an incredible viewpoint, I spent quite a bit of time taking it all in.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Stortorget

Stortorget
Located in the middle of Gamla Stan, Stortorget is the oldest town square in Stockholm, and was at one point was one of the largest city squares in northern Europe (today, it is one of the smallest). It hosts many events throughout the year, and is one of the most popular and most recognized buildings in Stockholm. Wouldn't you agree with me in saying that these colorful Gingerbread-style buildings are just begging to be photographed. Definitely one of the best Stockholm photo spots.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Skansen house

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Skansen log cabin

Skansen
This "Sweden in miniature" is also the world's oldest open-air museum, and showcases examples of Swedish villages, nature, commerce, and industry from all over the country. It gives you a unique insight into how Swedes once lived and worked. Many of the staff here are dressed in traditional period costumes, and showcase traditional foods, music, and handicrafts.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Skansen yellow house

The best part of Skansen is the houses - over 150 buildings and farms from the deconstructed and brought here. You learn a lot about the history and culture of Sweden, but it also doubles as one of the most Instagrammable places in Stockholm. (PS: Skansen is also up on a hill, so there are some pretty amazing views of the city from here.)

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of the water

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of Gamla Stan from boat cruise

Anywhere on the water
Stockholm is a city built on 14 islands that are connected by more than 50 bridges, so in my opinion, the best way to see it is from the water. There are many boat tours available, and these give you a unique perspective on the city and its gorgeous architecture - and present you with endless photo ops. It's also a great way to relax and rest your feet, so it's definitely a win-win! (Just don't fall asleep on the boat, cuz uhhh, I did. Twice. Oops).

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Drottningholm palace

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Drottningholm palace gardens

Drottningholms Slott
Drottningholms Slott (or palace) sits just outside of Stockholm, and is the official residence of the royal family of Sweden. The best way to get there is by boat, and it is a perfect excuse to spend some time on the water and take in some beautiful views (remember what I said above?). Drottningholms Slott is of 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is inspired by 16th and 17th century French architecture (one of is inspirations is the chateau of Versailles). The palace interior is gorgeous and ornate, and the surrounding grounds feature gardens, a theater, and a Chinese pavilion. Definitely worth taking a half-day trip out to one of the best photo spots in Stockholm.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - subway art Stadion

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - subway art T-Centralen

Subway Stations
Buy yourself a metro ticket and explore the longest art exhibition in the world! Stockholm's subway system (also known as "tunnelbana) stretches over 100km long, nearly 90 of the 100 stations have been decorated in some way, shape, of form - some stations have been adorned with paintings, mosaics and sculptures, and other stations are truly breathtaking installations that transport you into a different world.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - subway art Solna Centrum

It would be nearly impossible to see all 90 stations on a single trip to Stockholm, but you can easily hit the highlights in one afternoon. Some of the most impressive stations include: T-Centralen, Kungstragarden, Solna Centrum, and Stadion. If you want to read more about these stations, check out my Stockholm subway art tour post.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Djugarden blue gate

Djurgården
The island of the was historically the Game Park of the royal family - today is home to many of the city's top museums (i.e. the Vasa Museum, Skansen, Abba Museum), historical monuments, galleries, and amusement park, and plenty of green spaces. There are endless photo ops here, from the nature scenes to museums, and this beautiful blue gate that sits at the entrance of the park. There is plenty of beauty here, which makes it one of the top Stockholm Instagram spots.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - view of Strandvagen from Bjugarden

Strandvägen
Strandvägen is a boulevard on Östermalm, and it is known as one of the most prestigious addresses in town. It was completed just in time for the Stockholm World's Fair in 1897, and is lined with grand, palatial buildings, which many of the city's wealthiest residents call home. These mansions line the waterfront, and makes Strandvägen one of the most Instagrammable places in Stockholm. The best views of these buildings (with the water in front of it), is from the northern end of Djurgården.

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Greta's

Greta's

Greta's
You must swing by to have a coffee or cocktail at Greta's, which is the restaurant inside the Scandic Haymarket hotel - it is such a pretty space! I saw someone on Yelp describe the space as "Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Sex in the City," which absolutely fits it perfectly. Seriously, the decor is absolute perfection, with 1920s glamour (plush chairs, art deco vibes) with a modern flair (pineapple lamps). It is definitely one of the top Instagram spots in Stockholm, and one of the most Instagrammable restaurants/cafes that I've ever seen - soooo pretty!

Best Stockholm Instagram Spots - Brunkeberg Tunnel

Brunkeberg Tunnel
The Brunkeberg Tunnel is a 231-meter tunnel for pedestrians and cyclists in central Stockholm. It is built through a ridge and provides a shortcut in the middle of the city. Did you know that this tunnel was built in 1884? It's got a futuristic vibe (it's almost like you're walking into another dimension), and the vibrant yellow color makes the Brunkeberg Tunnel one of the top Instagram spots in Stockholm. Definitely stop by to get a photo here!
